Stockholm is developed by Select Themes, creator of several WordPress themes on Themeforest.
Stockholm Properties
Stockholm is packed with many features. Here are just a few of them:
140+ Important Demos
Stockholm is a multipurpose theme with lots of options to configure, so it can take a long time to learn to use and set up your site the way you want.
You can choose to import the content and design of one of the available demos to save time.
From the main WordPress menu on your dashboard, select New Import to get started . Here you will see a list of options to choose from and some settings.
Unfortunately, there is no preview of the demos here and no link to the preview. To see how they look before importing, you need to go to the Stockholm theme page on Themeforest and click the Live Preview button and then click on the demo you want to see.
Sites for demos:
- files
- agencies
- blogs
- hotels
- landing pages
- restaurants
- e-commerce stores
- local businesses
- one page themes
… Plus many multi-purpose demos.
You can customize any demo to make it look the way you want.
Customizable Design
After installing the theme and optionally importing demo content or styles, you can customize your site’s design by going to Choose Options from the main WordPress menu.
From here you can customize all the options for your site. The color and font of almost every element can be selected individually. You can even choose an accent color for your text.
You can choose a different Google Font for each element on your site:
Under general settings, you can set page transitions, load animations, and enable or disable smooth scrolling.
Numerous Header and Menu Styles
In Options » Title menu, you can customize the title area and menu design.
There are so many options for every detail of the header. Here are just a few:
Countless Blog Layout Options
For your blog layout, there are also a lot of details to consider under the Options » Blog menu.
There are 8 different layout options and they are all customizable.
For single posts, there are a number of options to customize the screen.
Customizable Footer
You can choose the number of columns (1 to 4) for your site’s footer and fully customize every aspect of the style.
Includes Visual Composer
Stockholm comes with the Visual Composer plugin, a premium drag and drop page builder plugin.
It also includes a few elements specific to the Stockholm theme:
- portfolio galleries
- counters
- call to action text with key
- style block quotes
- pie charts
- price tables
- …etc.
14 Page Templates
When creating a new page, Stockholm has several templates to choose from:
- Default Template: Standard page with boxed layout.
- Blog Animated
- Blog Based
- Blog Checkered
- Blog Big Picture
- Blog Big Picture Entire Post
- Blog Masonry
- Blog Masonry Full Width
- Blog Pinterest Full Width
- Contact Page: This can be set and customized under Option » Select Contact Page .
- Full Screen Sections: This template allows you to create full screen sections on your page. When viewers scroll, the entire episode is scrolled down and taken to the next episode. Good for one-page sites.
- Full Width (no sidebar)
- Landing Page (no headers or footers)
- WooCommerce store
13 Widget Areas and Custom Sidebars
Stockholm comes with 13 widget areas. They include:
- 4 footer widget areas (for 4 possible columns) and a footer text widget area
- separate separate sidebar and page sidebar areas
- edge area: doesn’t say exactly what or where, but can be enabled for display under Options » Header
- separate header fields: top left, top right, bottom right, and fixed right
- left menu area: not clear what exactly
Unfortunately, there is no explanation here as to exactly where all these widget areas are displayed or what types of widgets are best suited for each area.
There are very short explanations in the documentation, but you will often have to use trial and error to figure out how to use them.
There is also an option to create more widget areas.
Then you can set your widget areas to display instead of the default sidebar when creating a new page.
Portfolio and Custom Item Types
Stockholm automatically adds several new custom post types to your site: portfolio items and testimonials.
You can view both using custom elements in the visual composer. Also, the way your individual portfolio items are displayed can be customized in the Select Options » Portfolio menu.
Includes 3 Different Slider Makers
Stockholm also has several options for creating all kinds of sliders.
You get two premium slider plugins for free with your theme: LayerSlider and Slider Revolution. You can learn all the details of how these plugins work in our LayerSlider review and Slider Revolution .
There is also a built-in scroll tool called Select Slider that comes with the Stockholm theme.
To create a Selection Slider, you can go to Select Slider » Add New Slide .
From here you can select an image or video, add a title and other text, customize animation styles, add 1 or 2 buttons, etc.
Add several slides to create a slider and make sure you add them all to the same slider on the right.
You can then go to Select Slider » Sliders to get a shortcode to display on the post or page .
Or you can add it as an item using Visual Composer.
Documentation and Support
Stockholm documentation is very simple and not explained in detail. So many features you just have to figure out yourself through experimentation.
That said, the support staff seem very responsive, so if you get stuck in the documentation and can’t find anything, you can open a support ticket and get an answer soon.
When you buy the theme, it is supported for another 6 months, while it can be extended for another 12 months.
Stockholm is a beautifully designed theme with incredible flexibility. No site using this theme is alike because of all the customizable options.
But all these options also give this theme a steep learning curve. It will take a lot of time to configure the theme the way you want and learn to use all the options. Sparse documentation isn’t much help.
One possible thing to keep in mind before using this theme is that most of your content will be lost if you decide to change the theme. You will lose all your testimonials, portfolio items, contact form, sliders and more as there are many features built into the theme. Pages created with Visual Composer will also break if you decide to stop using the plugin. So once you start using this theme, as long as you don’t mind creating all your content from scratch, you’re stuck.
